Let us pray for Douglas Cannegieter, our eldest descendant alive!



Dear all,

Today I received the sad news that Douglas Cannegieter better known as " Uncle Dougie" is in the hospital in Sint Maarten N.A. I understood that he's doing a little better.
Uncle Dougie is the eldest descendant alive at the age of 99. On August 6th 2008 he will be making a 100 years and this special day will also be celebrated at the VR-reunion 2008 in Sint Maarten, N.A.

Let us all pray for uncle Dougie that he may soon recover.

Douglas Cannegieter is the eldest descendant of the van Romondt family of the West Indian Branch Sint Maarten, N.A. mr. Douglas Sinclair Cannegieter (brother of the late judge Clarence Aubrey Cannegieter) celebrates his 99 birthday on August 6, 2007 and with this the kickoff starts for the organization of the reunion 2008 of all the descendants of the VR West Indian Branch. The reunion and celebration of the 100 b-day of Douglas Sinclair is scheduled the 1st week of August 2008.

Uncle Dougie is son of Otto Lionel van Romondt & Sarah Cannegieter. He was raised together with his 3 brothers Clarence Aubrey, Roger and Granville by both of his parents and the family lived on backstreet, Sint Maarten N.A.. At a young age he went to Aruba and Venezuela where he worked and married Ligia. The couple has 5 wonderful children, grandchildren and great grandchildren living in Venezuela, Florida, Germany and the Dominican Republic. Currently Douglas lives in Sint Maarten, N.A. at the famous house where the parrot is outside (recently passed away) and the streetname "van Romondt steeg" is posted on the house, where many of you took your pictures ! He is getting good help and we thank everyone who helps him each and everyday in this especially his caretakers and Blondell Cannegieter. Please find attached a pic of him.

Let us pray that Douglas Cannegieter recovers soon and that God guides us all as we get ready for the reunion and get the feeling next year of how wonderful life can be at the age of 100 and get to meet many descendants!
