Guyana-born Alita Singh, a journalist with The Daily Herald, collected several awards during 2005/2006 in the areas of tourism and environment. Most notably, Singh was named environmentalist of the year in 2005, collected the SHTA Crystal Pineapple Award for Excellence in Tourism Reporting, and received the first ever honorable mention in the American Express/Caribbean Hotel Association tourism reporting award.
In 2006 Malaki contacted Alita to tell her more about the van Romondt Research Project and the goal of the project which is to find, gather and connect all descendants of the van Romondt Family of the West Indian Branch. Alita was very excited and soon after published an article regarding the research in the Weekender of the newspaper The Daily Herald in Sint Maarten N.A. Alita is looking forward to write more stories on historical aspects of Sint Maarten N.A. and will also contribute to publish some more articles of the research and the upcoming VR-reunion in August 2008.
