Tribute to those who left us behind

I would like to remember my grandfather "Alvan Bruno Richardson".

Bruno was born on the island of Sint Maarten 3th September 1926 son of mr. John Granville Otto van Romondt and mrs. Ella Eunice Rhoda Richardson.

Bruno grew up on the Granville Estate ( St. Peters, Sint Maarten N.A.) owned by his father. He enjoyed living on the plantation with cattle and the luxury life that it brought in those days. His father mr. John Granville was known as the milkman as he deliverd milk and fresh butter on Sint Maarten, N.A.

After the death of his father Bruno left to Aruba at a very young age during the wartime. He joined the army and worked at the Lago (Oil Refinary in Aruba) launches to Venezuela.

Eventually he became a wellknown taxidriver and tourist guide on the island of Aruba and owner of carrentals and large touring buses. Bruno owned "Bruno Tours" on the island of Aruba. Together with Iona and daugther Cheryl (my mom) they managed the family company from 28 April 1960 till 14 September 1988.

Bruno married Iona Bernadine Cannegieter (daugther of Judge Clarence "mr. Bee" Cannegieter, son of Otto Lionel VR) and had 11 children.

He leaves behind his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren on 21th March 2007 in Doetinchem, The Netherlands.

I will always remember the strenght of my grandfather and I share the same love for seafood as he did. He was a very jolly person and I have beautiful memories of him driving me up and down in the tourbuses! My grandfather always told us about our family history and I thank him for sharing this with us.

He always called me the family lawyer and I thank him for giving me the motivation to do this research.
